What will society look like, in a few years from now? Today we can envision vibrant, exciting towns and cities which are clean, secure and easy to move around in. The city streets are busy but not clogged with traffic, and they are free of smog, and well-lit.

Electricity operators produce exactly the amount of energy needed. And people are fully aware of their energy consumption, which is, by the way, quite low and well-controlled. The electricity produced by people's solar panels is fed back to the electricity grid, and is well-monitored too. And while travelling, people remotely control the lights and heating equipment back at home; for security, and to minimize energy wastage.

Citizens use public transportation when possible, and their electric vehicles when needed. They exchange information with anyone, at any time, and at any place.
And they use their smartphones - or any other mobile device we don't know yet today - to open their car doors, pay for a cinema ticket securely, or identify themselves at a hotel reception. They monitor their physical condition real-time; on the way or at home, rather than at the doctor's office or hospital.

And there will be many more ways - beyond our imagination today - to improve daily live. What we do know is that electronics, and in particular smart chips, are the key enablers of these new appliances and features.
